In Pakistani markets and pharmacies you'll see almond oil sold under many names: badam rogan, roghan-e-badam, badam ka tel, sweet almond oil. Some bottles say 'shirin' (sweet), others say 'talkh' (bitter). Prices vary wildly, and so does quality. It can be confusing. Here's what it all means, and how to choose well.
Badam rogan is almond oil
'Rogan' (or roghan) simply means oil, and 'badam' means almond. Badam rogan is almond oil, and in everyday use it usually refers to oil from sweet almonds. It's the same oil sold internationally as sweet almond oil. The name has deep roots in traditional South Asian and Persian care, which is why you'll often find it in traditional pharmacies.
